This is a body of large-format photos which all contain dark black backgrounds. These create a limitless depth of the space, from which the images emerge. The annulment of the context springs from the need to nullify any architectural or structural reference in order to focus attention on the subjects. The dilated pathos which leads to the mystery is thus created. Everything was photographed in the studio, with a minimal set.
The series consists of two groups: Still Life and Photo Story.

E’ un corpo di fotografie dalle grandi dimensioni, accomunate dall’uso di sfondi nerissimi, piatti, che creano una profondità senza limiti di spazio, dai quali emergono le immagini. L’annullamento del contesto nasce dell’esigenza di azzerare qualsiasi riferimento architettonico o strutturale, per accentrare l’attenzione sui soggetti. In questo modo si viene a creare del pathos dilatato che riconduce al mistero. Tutto è stato rigorosamente fotografato in studio, costruendo un set essenziale.
La serie è costituita da due gruppi: Nature morte e Fotoromanzo.

Photo Story
This series of photos was taken with the help of the artist’s family and friends, in particular his daughter. Being a dancer, she had an awareness of the body and movement which corresponds exactly to the aim of the project. The idea was to depict a sort of story, a little like in photo stories (but in this case there is no dialogue). It is a frozen sequence, in which the subjects are captured in an emotional stasis.

Fotoromanzo
Questa serie di fotografie è stata realizzata con la collaborazione dei familiari dell’artista, in particolare la figlia, la quale, essendo una danzatrice, ha una consapevolezza del corpo e del movimento che corrisponde esattamente all’intento che ha animato il progetto. L’idea è stata quella di rappresentare una sorta di racconto. Un po’ come nei fotoromanzi (ma in questo caso non erano previsti dialoghi). Si tratta di sequenze congelate, dove i soggetti sono ripresi in una stasi emozionale.

Still Life
The still life theme comes from a desire to give a voice to objects which we normally consider inanimate. At times the dramatic aspect of the depiction can be seen, whereas at others a playful essentiality emerges. The images are reflections on a black surface which is not distinguished from the background, thus creating a double that is sometimes disturbing. Each object has a strong identity and expresses its uniqueness, to the extent that they create powerful emotive references. The objects tell their story or arouse curiosity, a desire to know who enjoyed owning them or whether there is some mystery to be revealed. S.R.

Nature Morte
Il tema della natura morta nasce dal desiderio di dar voce a oggetti che, normalmente, consideriamo inanimati. Talora ne esce l’aspetto drammatico della rappresentazione, altre volte, invece, un’essenzialità giocosa. Le immagini sono riflesse su un piano nero che non si distingue dallo sfondo, creando un doppio, a volte, inquietante. Tutte le cose hanno in sé un’identità forte ed esprimono la loro unicità, al punto di creare forti rimandi emotivi. Gli oggetti raccontano la loro storia e inducono alla curiosità, a voler sapere chi ne ha goduto, possedendoli. O se ci sia, invece, qualche mistero da svelare. S.R.
